JUDAS ISCARIOT - Dethroned, Conquered and Forgotten - CD - Red Stream Records

review by: Roberto Martinellli

One-man band Judas Iscariot returns with a five song mini CD of more Darkthrone worship. The material on this album is not new, but has been re-recorded. The first four songs don't appear on any other Judas Iscariot album, I believe. The fifth song is a sped up version of "Spill the Blood of the Lamb" from the Heaven in Flames album.

It seems that Akhenaten has (finally) conceded that Judas Iscariot could be so much better if he left the drums to someone else, and has enlisted the talents of a proper drummer. The result is inhumanely fast and tight. I wonder if the drum tracks are sped up.

Of course, as Judas Iscariot's music is only about the minimalistic style popularized by Darkthrone, the rhythms and pace of the songs remain pretty much constant, so Akhenaten really only has to work on one type of playing. But man, this is some great stuff. The production and feel of the songs are just right. This is the fastest material Judas Iscariot has done to date. While the best album of this US black metal frontrunner is still Heaven in Flames, I have no doubt that any fan of necro black metal will eat this up.
