The Inalienable Dreamless comes in a DVD case that
has an unassuming wraparound photo taken from ground level of a calm sea
beneath a milky sky. The band logo blends in passively with the background
blue. Beneath this serene façade, however, lies a monster.
From start to finish, Discordance Axis blitz your
senses with testosterone driven metalcore. Although The Inalienable
Dreamless may only be 23 minutes in length, believe me, you wouldn't
want this to be much longer. This is certainly not because this is a poor
album. Quite the contrary, it is an excellent piece of concentrated angst,
but it's that most human beings may not be able to withstand more than
a half hour of this kind of sonic punishment.
Certainly the first thing that people will talk about
concerning this album is the insane drumming. Hang on to your earphones,
folks. Stevil compares the impact
of the drumming of this album to the impact Cryptic Slaughter had over
15 years ago, if you were into this stuff back then.
Discordance Axis doesn't quite play grindcore, although
the feel of what they do most ressembles that. It's kind of grindy metal
noisecore. The vocals in particular are the element that make one think
of noisecore, as the singer's style brings up images of a person who has
completely lost all traces of sanity and is in the throes of an uncontrollable,
high-pitched, shrieking, frenzied rant, tearing out his hair and frothing
at the mouth. Insane, people.
As there are 17 tracks on the album, you can imagine
that the songs are quite short. In all, The Inalienable Dreamless
provides a healthy dose of well played pummeling. Good stuff.
